About Us…

Welcome Mamas e.V. was founded in Berlin in 2016 to provide refugees with support and orientation regarding pregnancy, birth and new parenthood. 

As the saying goes “It takes a village to raise a child”. Our aim is to develop this village- a network of people from midwives to social workers to our volunteer “buddies” for people who have no choice but to leave their country of origin to seek a better life for themselves and their families. 

Our volunteer buddies have already given birth in Germany and therefore have first-hand experience with the German system when it comes to pregnancy and birth. This means that they can guide and advise on things like pre and postnatal healthcare options, bureaucracy, birth options and basic equipment, children’s rights and maternity protection. They can come along to appointments, act as a first point of contact and often replace aunts, friends and neighbours from home, sensitively explaining customs and norms in Germany. 

Welcome Mamas e.V. is a non-profit organization, relying on donations and volunteers to continue to be able to support newcomers to Germany.
